Yes!! We have had a few people say that there was not enough adhesive in their kit. If this is your case, you are using too much adhesive! Please read the instructions carefully before applying the patch, more is not better.
There is actually enough adhesive in each kit for about twice as many patches as what is provided.
With all that said, if you ever run into trouble with not having enough adhesive, additional adhesive can be bought separately.
Here is a video that shows you exactly how much adhesive is included in each bottle of adhesive.
GlueTread patches are intended for use on the exterior of a tire. With that said, we do have some customers that prefer to have the patch on the inside and outside of the tire. By doing this, they are able to recover as much sidewall strength as possible.
If you decide to patch the inside of the tire, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, make sure that all chemical sealants are removed from the tire. Secondly, the sanding and prep work is extremely important. Some tire manufacturers have chemicals on the inside of the tire that will react with the GlueTread Adhesive and cause the bond to not form correctly. With this in mind, proper cleaning and sanding are crucial.
After the prep work is completed, the patch can be applied to the inside of the tire the same way that you would apply it on the exterior of the tire. With all of that said, GlueTread has not independently tested our patches exclusively for interior use.
The shelf life on GlueTread Adhesive is largely dependent on the humidity of the climate where it is located and exposure to ultraviolet light. GlueTread Adhesive can be expected to last for at least two years. It is best to store your adhesive in a cool, dark place for maximum shelf life.
GlueTread repairs are meant be a temporary fix until you can get your tire to a professional.
With that said, we have test vehicles that have had patches on for 2+ years and had several customers report that they have traveled over 100 trail miles with a sidewall patch in place.
GlueTread Accelerator can be expected to last several years. Although the potency of the accelerator will decline over time, there is not a certain amount of time when the Accelerator is no longer effective.
No. GlueTread products are not approved for on-road use.
The answer to this question is very dependent on the type of damage that the patch has repaired. In proper testing environments, GlueTread patches can hold pressure up to 40psi. This can be the expected result for minor damage like a small puncture from a sharp object like a nail.If you are repairing a slice in the tire, the capabilities of the patch are largely dependent on the size of the puncture and how effectively the patch is applied.
Great question! There are three main ways to avoid/fix this possible problem. First of all, when you do the prep, it is important to sand down all the tire lettering, this will allow the patch to sit flat on the tire.
Secondly, if you have a patch that is leaking, you can repair it with more adhesive and accelerator. Here is a video that shows how to do that.
Lastly, you can always use a chemical sealant such as FlatOut to put in the tire that will plug these smaller leaks.
